Creation Story

Millions of years ago, before humans and animals, plants and water, the earth was nothing but gray, colorless dry land. Covered in debris and dust from the void of space and surrounded by billions or trillions of twinkling stars. At that time the earth was inhabited by two very different types of beings, daemons, and apparitions. The daemons were eight-foot-tall beings with monstrous appearances; sharp teeth, yellow eyes, and grey skin made them horrifying to look upon. They spoke in deep, scratchy voices and a language only they and the apparitions understood. The apparitions were unlike the daemons in every way. Phantasmic beings with light airy appearances, so faint you could barely see them. The apparitions were delicate, wispy beings, and they spoke with light, airy voices.

The daemons and apparitions lived on the earth for many years, coexisting despite their differences until one day the argument sparked between the two groups. For many years the apparitions had been trying to bring color to the earth. However, every effort made by the Aspirations was undone by the daemons, who preferred the earth dark and barren. This day, however, the aspirations had become fed up with living in darkness. They gathered together in the middle of the earth and rose their hands to the sky, creating a bright light above the earth which they named the sun. The sun's creation enraged the daemons, rising together they faced the aspirations at the center.

“How dareth thee weak peasants disturb our peace with thy beams” the largest of the daemons yelled at the apparitions with anger.

“we've just as much right as thee to peace daemons, we tireth of thy oppression and mistreatment” the leader of the apparitions responded calmly.

“How shalt we both findeth peace at which hour thy creation blinds us daemons,” the daemon asked.

The apparitions again raised their hands to the sky, the sun began to sink lower and another light, this time dimmer rose. “The moon, t shalt riseth in the evenings, then the daemons shalt has't their peace, but during the day, while the travelling lamp shines, we shalt has't ours.”

Thus, night and day were created, but, peace among the beings did not last.\, for the daemons were never satisfied, the next evening they went to the apparitions who were resting peacefully.

“we seeketh furth'r delegation cater-cousins, we groweth b'r'd sitting 'round, we wanteth to negotiateth ent'rtainment.”

“what s'rt of ent'rtainment doth thee seeketh mine own dark pe'rs?” asked one of the apparitions.

“Creatures, ones f'r us to hunteth f'r food and game.” the demon replied.

“Creatures can beest madeth, und'r c'rtain conditions,” the aparitions told them, “th're beest enow left alive to replenish themselves and none art t'rtur'd.”

“Did agree,” the daemons said.

“Howev'r,” the apparitions added, “if 't be true creatures art to beest madeth, then we might not but eke maketh food and wat'r f'r the creatures.”

The daemons nodded, and all at one, the daemons and the apparitions raised their hands and began to split the Eart in many places at once. Creating rivers, oceans, and seas. It was only the apparitions, however, that could create life, for the daemons could only bring death. And so the apparitions spread across the planet creating animals from the elements of Earth.

Frogs were greeted from mud and leaves.

    Birds from air and sticks.

Cows were made from grass and dirt.

Crabs were made from sand and salt.

Sharks were made from seaweed and stone.

Elephants were made from sand and mud.

Monkeys were made from wood and leaves.

Fish of all kinds were made from water and plants.

The apparitions spent the next three days making hundreds of animals across the land, each animal made in its habitat. Before returning to the daemons, however, the apparitions decided to be sneaky. They decided to create human life. And hide them from the daemons until they could convince the daemons to accept them. So, the apparitions created both the first humans for the first time from the four main elements of the earth: dirt, wind, water, and fire. They instructed the humans to stay hidden in a forest, living peacefully off the land. They told them they could eat any crop but that they could not hunt the animals, and that they should care for each other.

However, the apparitions had not known, that the daemons had sent a spider to spy on them. The spider went back to the daemons and told them about the humans. The daemons felt deceived by the apparitions and became angry with them. As the Apparitions returned from creating the animals, the daemons gathered to confront them.

“How dareth thee dissemble us, how dareth thee deceiveth us into giving thee wanteth thee did want,” the largest daemon yelled, “beshrew thee quiet beings, damn thee and all of thy creation! May all of thy creation beest doom'd to temptation and death f'rev'r”

“How doth thee spy on us? how doth thee calleth us trickst'rs at which hour thee too dabble in misdirection and lies?” asked the Apparitions.

“We sendeth the spid'rs, creatures of stealth, to seeth thy dealings, t is true yond we too art not chariest, but we doth not claimeth to beest.  Thee claimeth to beest bett'r.” answered the daemons.

The daemons turned and disappeared to the otherworld. The apparitions could not see or go the otherworld, they were trapped on Earth with their creation. A creation now doomed to death, pain, and imperfection. The Apparitions found the spider who had spied on them.

“alas thee fowl eight-leg'd creature, f'r the rest of life thee shalt beest eaten by thy mateth aft'r copulation, thee shall f'rev'r remaineth humans' foe” The apparition spat at him.

Humans came out of hiding but were no longer able to see apparitions, an unforeseen result of the curse of the daemons. The apparitions, unable to outwardly guide their creations, decided to guide them through kharma. The more kind, compassionate, and selfless a person was, the better their Kharma, the better their life would be. The better their chances of finding love, having a child, and getting a promotion. The more selfish, hateful, and unkind a person was, the more ill-will they received; the more sickness, loss, and suffering. So, the question is not what the gods want us to do, the gods don't care, our purpose is up to us as individuals.
